Terms

The agreement between you and the company that makes MergeWise. It is short, it is in plain English, and the most important part is the second section: what MergeWise is not.

1. What MergeWise is

MergeWise is a personal money record. You log what you spent, what came in, what sits in which account, what a pot holds and what a trip cost. It keeps every entry, freezes the exchange rate on the day you spent, records a correction as a correction rather than an overwrite, and reads your month back to you in plain words. There is also a vault for passwords and papers that never leaves your device.

These terms are an agreement between you and Pankaj Fabricators, [legal form: proprietorship / LLP / private limited], registered at [registered office address, with PIN code], India. In this page, "we" and "us" mean that company, and "you" means the person using MergeWise. Creating an account means you accept these terms and the privacy policy.

2. What MergeWise is not

This is the section that matters most, so it is said in short sentences with nothing hidden in them.

One sentence

MergeWise reads and remembers. Only your bank moves a rupee.

Bank feeds are designed and are not built. Until they are, every figure in MergeWise arrived because you or someone in your pot put it there. If bank feeds ever ship, they will be a read-only connection you switch on deliberately, through a regulated channel, on a screen that explains what it does before you agree.

3. The beta, and what it means

MergeWise is in beta and it is free. Beta is not a marketing word here; it changes what you should expect.

4. Your account and who can have one

5. Using it fairly

Use MergeWise for your own money records. Do not use it to do any of the following.

The publishable key in the app is a public value by design, and the database's row level security is what actually protects data. Finding that key is not a discovery and using it to attempt access to another person's records is a breach of these terms and of the law.

6. Your data is yours

You own everything you put into MergeWise. Creating an account does not give us ownership of your records, and nothing on this page transfers anything to us.

You give us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your records, sync them between your own devices, show them back to you, and include them in an export when you ask for one. That permission is limited to operating MergeWise, and it ends when your account ends.

What we do collect and why is set out item by item in the privacy policy. It also explains what erasure means when the ledger is append-only, which is worth reading before you need it.

7. The vault stays on your device

The Keys vault, where you keep passwords, documents and a spare key, is stored on your device only. There is no table for it in our database and no endpoint that can return a secret. We built it that way on purpose, and it has a consequence you should understand before you use it:

The consequence

We cannot recover your vault. If you lose the device, or clear the browser's storage, or uninstall the app, what was in the vault is gone. There is no reset link, no backup on our side, and no support request that changes this. Keep a second copy of anything you cannot afford to lose.

The same applies to receipt images and statement files: they are read on your device, and only the entries you choose to keep are stored.

8. Availability, and no warranty

MergeWise is provided as is and as available. In a free beta we do not offer an uptime commitment, a service level agreement, or a promise that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error free.

We depend on other companies to run: Supabase for the database and sign-in, Netlify to serve the app, an email provider to deliver account mail, and your own device and network. An outage at any of them is an outage for you, and we will say what we know while it lasts.

To the extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Nothing here excludes a right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, or any other Indian law that cannot be contracted out of.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by Indian law:

None of this limits our liability for fraud, for wilful misconduct, for gross negligence, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law.

You agree to cover us for claims brought by a third party that arise from your use of MergeWise in breach of these terms, including a claim about data you put into MergeWise that was not yours to put there.

10. Suspension and closing your account

You can leave at any time. Email [grievance email] with the subject "Erasure request" and we will close and erase the account on the terms set out in the privacy policy. We will offer you a copy of everything before we act, and we will wait for your answer.

We can suspend or close an account if it is being used to break section 5, if keeping it open would break the law, or if there is a security reason that will not wait. Where we can tell you first, we will. Where we cannot, we will tell you as soon as it is safe to, and say why.

If we ever discontinue MergeWise, we will give you at least 60 days notice by email, keep exports working for that whole period, and then erase what is left.

11. Changes to these terms

We will change these terms as the product changes. When we do, the date at the top changes and we say what changed in one line. If a change materially affects your rights, we will email you at least 14 days before it takes effect, so you can read it and leave if you disagree. Using MergeWise after a change takes effect means you accept it.

12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at [city], [state], India, have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of them.

Before either of us goes to court, we should try to sort it out. Write to [grievance email] setting out the problem, and we will answer within 30 days. Most things end there.

If a court finds one part of these terms unenforceable, the rest still stands.
